Local School Wellness Policy

A local school wellness policy is a written document that guides a local educational agency or school district's efforts to create supportive school nutrition and physical activity environments before-, during-, and after-school. All education agencies participating in federal Child Nutrition Programs, including the National School Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program, are required to develop and implement a wellness policy.

The Montague Charter Academy Governing Board recognizes that health habits are often established in childhood and is committed to the promotion of healthy eating, increased physical activity, and positive lifestyle practices in schools. Efforts will be made to engage the community in the successful implementation of the Wellness Policy and to seek out funds from additional sources, including grants and contributions from the private sector.

School Wellness Council

Our school wellness council is an action-oriented advisory group that focuses on the health and well-being of students, staff, and families at Montague Charter Academy. The school wellness council implements the school's wellness policy and leads other health-related initiatives.

The school wellness council will also:

  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of Montague's health and wellness policies and programs
  • Advise the school board on related school or community health issues
  • Organize health-promoting programs or events for our students and families

The council should represent the diversity of our school and include people that have a passion for children's health, have an influence in the school and community, and have time to commit to supporting the committee's goals.

Parents, join our school wellness council and have your voice heard on the important health related issues affecting your children!
