WELCOME TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION WITH COACH ALEX!

Welcome back from spring break
Montague students and families!

Please visit your Grade Level Link for your Weekly PE Assignments and Exciting VIDEOS to COMPLETE!!

Hello Montague Students,

I will be your virtual PE Instructor for the school year 2019-2020. I have worked as a PE Instructor for 10+ years for Elementary and Middle School and I am happy to be a part of the Montague Family. We will be following our ACHIEVE Curriculum to teach PE. I have also planned several PE Games per grade level to apply to our day to day lesson. Both ACHIEVE curriculum and games within our lessons follow the Standards established by the State Board of Education for Physical Education. I have learned throughout the years of teaching that PE is POWERFUL EDUCATION! Daily activity that involves moving your body is always healthy and helps our mind and body to have emotional stability to perform our daily tasks. Believe it or not Physical activity goes hand in hand with your Academic education, your brains are healthier as a byproduct of your physical activity which leads to more concentrated focus in class! :) Everyone wins! We will have fun!

Now that you are home during these next few weeks it is very important we maintain Physical Activity! Make sure to have your PE during your 1hr that you had PE for school! SO YES Coach Alex and the PE Team will be posting videos on the MONTAGUE Website for you to do! ;) You will need to log in from 8:30-9:30 am at least 3 times a week to get your daily physical activity.

We will have lots of fun. I highly recommend for our TK-3rd grade and also 4th & 5th to log into GONOODLE.COM and search COACH TERRY my partner for PE Class ;)

Sincerely,

About the Program

Physical Education is an important part of student education at Montague Charter Academy.  MCA uses Achieve! Physical Education Curriculum as its main PE program. This program is in accordance with the California Physical Education Framework for students from K-5th grade.  It offers standards-based, age- and skill appropriate activities that emphasize both skill development and fitness.  It provides a sequential, non-competitive approach to skill development and fitness. MCA’s program ensures that students at every fitness and skill level experience regular success, encouraging continued participation and improvement.  Furthermore, it incorporates Words of Wisdom, a character-developing component that helps provide an encouraging environment where all students support each other regardless of ability.

Physical Fitness Testing

Fifth grade students will participate in a physical fitness test called the Fitnessgram.  The main goal of this test is to help students in starting life-long habits of regular physical activity.  The Fitnessgram is composed of six fitness areas that show a level of fitness that offers a degree of defense against diseases that come from inactivity.

The six fitness areas tested are:

  1. Aerobic Capacity
  2. Abdominal Strength and Endurance
  3. Upper Body Strength and Endurance
  4. Body Composition
  5. Flexibility

Thanks to MCA’s commitment to Physical Education, all Montague students begin preparing for the Fitnessgram starting in Kindergarten.  In addition, Fifth grade students receive an additional 30 minutes of Physical Education each week that is dedicated to preparing for the Fitnessgram.
