Mrs. Valdez's First Grade Class

Welcome parents and families! My name is Mrs. Valdez. I will be your child's first grade teacher this year! First grade is such an important year in developing your child's reading, writing, and math skills. This year your child will be developing several reading skills through fiction and non-fiction text. In writing, students will write clear and complex sentences using simple conjunctions , vivid verbs, and adjectives. In math, students will explore multiple strategies to build their number sense. They will learn how to add and subtract within 10 with ease, among many other concepts.
I graduated magna cum laude from California Lutheran University with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies. I have been a teacher at Montague for 20 years. I started out as a substitute teacher. I fell in love with Montague's staff and community and knew this is where I belonged. First Grade is my passion, but I have also taught third and fifth grade.
